The French word for "paperclip" (or gem clip, which I've never used) is apparently "trombone." What is the French word for "trombone?" Does this mean that "paperclip" ("trombone") means essentially "twisty metal thingy," like a trombone, in French? Or is it that the French literally call paperclips "trombones" because they resemble the musical instrument?
